Chinatown Bus: Thoughts? help!

Hello my 2 readers! I need your help.

I have procrastinated making travel plans to Virginia Beach for this weekend (maybe it has something to do with that god awful medal? Truth, the damn thing has grown on me and now I really want it for the fact that it's so damn ugly) Anyway, now I need your help.

My best bet at the moment is to take a Chinatown bus. It's the cheapest and fastest way to get there. It's hours faster than a greyhound or a train (8 hours as opposed to 10-12 hours) and it's more than half the price.

So, my question is: Should I fear for my life?

  1. You shouldn't fear for your life, but you should expect it to go poorly. First off, it won't be 8 hours. I've never had a chinatown bus arrive on time, even just the 2-hour trip between Philly and NYC. Secondly, anything can happen. I've found myself stranded on the side of the highway *more than once* because the bus broke down and we were waiting for another bus. I've had drivers get lost. You just roll with it.

If price is what matters to you (and it is to me), do it. Otherwise I vote train.

  2. Think of the stories you'll have to share afterward about the crazy quest on a bus to get the world's ugliest race medal!

  3. Oh, lord. Ok.
I am booking my $55 roundtrip ticket to VA Beach and I'm hoping for the best. If nothing else, it will be a good blog post- if I don't get homocidal.

    Wish me luck!

  4. Hello Ms. Abby.

2 readers? Whatever! If so, then I am your 3rd reader.

And as your running buddy and Rock Star friend, having traveled the world using various modes of transportation and various price ranges,
do the Chinatown bus. It's cost effective, you already know there will be drama and have lots of stories to tell, have your iPhone charged, bring snacks and sleep most of the way, Girl it's worth it to save the pennies for when we travel to Madrid to do a full marathon ;-) . Just think it's all about the medal.

The famous Anna Banana commented on my blog!!
I will take your advice, but Madrid? You kill me.

And as of right now I don't even know if I have a place to stay. This is medal karma for me calling it ugly, I swear.
