3 Things.

If you haven't seen it already, there is a very funny story at the Runner's World website about runner's etiquette. It address my number one pet peeve:

THIS!!!!

Just pretend that marathon means 4 miler :)

In an effort to mix things up this training season, I bought a passport with Classtivity to try out a ton of different studio classes. . . now the challenge is trying to figure out how to add them into my schedule and my schedule is annoying. It's easy for me to double up my Tues/Thurs workouts, because those classes happen at my gym. If I take a class on one of those days not at my gym, where/when am I going to run? And do I really want to add another day that I have to lug my gym bag around the city? I know, I know. I'm just being lazy about it. Since I kicked off my membership and it only lasts 30 days, I will hopefully get on it. My first class is going to be my very first spin class! Hoping it works out as well as my Zumba class, but who knows? There is opportunity for me to fall off the bike. . .

Good luck to everyone rocking the Brooklyn Half! Can I please express my love love love for this event's branding?! Kudos, NYRR! You really knocked this one out the park. Keep up the good work (The Oakley Mini 10k looks super cute, too!) I love all that is surrounding this event dedicated to my favorite borough and I can't wait to run it next year! I really want to go to the pre-party, but sadly I am a New Yorker, we generally don't like to venture into different neighborhoods (j/k! but not really.
If it's not on my subway line or easy to get to and from, I'm probably not going). I'm way nervous about having to BE at Prospect Park for 4AM on Saturday, too. YIKES! But for automatic entry to next year's race with some kickass branding? I think I can do it!

What's your running pet peeve? What's your favorite branding from a race?

  1. I'm the last person to sprint at the end of a marathon...I'm lucky if I'm even still on my feet by that point!

  3. My only pet peeve is when people complain about how slow they are... and come to find out they're faster (by a lot!) than I am. Grrr! LOL

  4. I totally agree with Diana. I love when people go on and on about how slow they are -no, really! I'm totally slow!- then you find out that "slow" to them means they're minutes shy of a sub-2 half. I also get annoyed by people that think it's okay to use their iPhone as a boom box. Hey buddy, how 'bout some EAR BUDS. I don't want to hear your death metal.

I'm totally conscious of "branding" thanks to you, Abs. I mean, I think I was always aware on some level, but now it jumps out at me. I like the branding for Brooklyn Half, as well. I can't think of s race that I know how of that has awesome branding. Disney is hit or miss. I like the style of the NYCM medals for the last few years, but I hate that they no longer use the apple in their logo. *sadface*

    1. Don't you love that I tend to hijack your page all of the time. Oopsy.

    2. I'm a fan of your hijacking, hijack away! It's fun :) I pay your blog back often. haha!

That's why I'm a total fan of the Jaime/ Tara party- we run the same pace! Well, only when yall run a half the day before. I don't think I'll be able to catch up for Dumbo.

In my sleep deprived state one morning on the train, I totally told this drunk guy I was not in the mood to listen to his techno at 6AM (What? He asked!)looking back, I'm glad he took it ok or I probably would've been shot.

I feel like a proud momma! More people need to be aware of crap design that saturates their existence nowadays- specifically in the running community. I agree, my heart broke a little when NYRR redesigned. And sadly, I don't like the NYCM medals- they're too cheap looking to be the medal for such an amazing (and expensive!) race, but that's just me- and my opinion doesn't mean much.

I feel like my response should be a post on it's own. haha!

    3. On the one hand, I totally agree about the NYCM medals (and I think Tara totally agrees, but I could be remembering incorrectly) but on the other hand, I like the simplicity of the medal for a classic race. At least the design is a HUGE improvement over years past for that race. Some of the earlier medals were hideous!

    4. I'll give you that and agree. It should be tasteful and elegant. But it does nothing for motivating me to run faster to the finish to get it ;)

    1. I know, Emily! I know. I'm scaring myself over here. Who am I?! BUT the good news is, I can tell you- Zumba is NOT as scary as you think. Just rip the band-aid off and do it! Now spinning? IDK yet. I'll report back!

Yea. 4AM. What was I thinking?!

  6. I totally laughed at that Runner's World article...especially "Look at me, and how bad I managed my energy for the last 26.1 miles!"...so true! I may speed up slightly the last mile, but definitely not sprinting to the finish!

I'm interested to hear how your volunteer experience was, I really need to get around to volunteering at a few races!

    1. It was a really funny article!

I will definitely have a post about volunteering! I have a few previous posts about the other times I volunteered. I highly suggest you do it, it's a lot of fun and you get to see the other side of running!
