Winter running is here!

Just got back from my first long run post-marathon. The idea of easing back into training was just too appealing. Technically, I was going to wait until next weekend to kickoff training again, but I was kind of bummed about not thinking to sign up for a Turkey Trot before Thanksgiving Eve. So, I ate cereal and watched Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade on the TV, like a normal American. Then, regretted not running. I was already feeling gross, add the one day a year you're supposed to overeat and let's just say it really wasn't pleasant. So, I decided to run this afternoon.

When did it turn into winter running?! I know I haven't done a long run in 3 weeks, but wow! I went out in capris, a shirt and a long sleeved shirt thinking I'd be too hot! The weather said windy and cloudy, hence why I came back with my entire body wind burned. In hindsight, running by the Brooklyn waterfront probably wasn't a good plan either. But it was all worth it. I went out planning on doing 6, but felt so good I did 7. YaY!

Time to start thinking like a winter runner.

What do you do differently for your winter long runs?

  1. Winter running changes everything. In the summe it's crap shorts and a tank and you're out the door in 2 minutes. In the winter, it's bundle up and seems like it takes forever to figure out the right mix of warm but not too hot or cold

  2. In Phoenix, winter running is probably what other runners experience for most of the year...but we're such weenies when it comes to cold that we layer up when it drops below 70. ;)

    1. haha, I WISH! The year I decided to train for my 1st half marathon it was the coldest in history. . made last winter look like a wimp. Although it takes a second to adjust, I like running faster in the cold weather :)

  3. I just found your blog! Winter here is hit or miss...high in the 50s one day and a high of 80 the next. Arm warmers have become my best friend. I love that I can just remove them when I warm up and tuck them into my fuel belt. Other than that, I break out my capris and wear those long sleeved shirts that we rarely get to wear!

    1. Welcome :)

Arm warmers are my BFF, too for that exact reason! Unfortunately, I will have to bundle up, but they're nice for the in between months.

  4. The parade .... did you see them drop the cheerleader that was the center person right there, bam, center of the screen?? It made my day! *I'm so mean, I just love to see cheerleaders mess up and/or fall/get dropped (as long as they aren't hurt, obviously).

    1. Ha! Sadly, no.

I was probably distracted. When I realized I was watching the "Pre-show", I tuned out a lot. Opps.
