(3 things) Real Vacations, The 4th and the TInk 10k

Happy 4th and this amazingly long weekend, yall! As I sit in my apartment, I've come to the conclusion I'd like to take an actual vacation, as in not attached to a race. There, I said it. Don't get me wrong, race-cations are fab, but sometimes you just need to get out of the city and enjoy doing nothing. AmIRight?! I can't remember the last time I took a good old fashioned vacation and I think it's about time. Now, who would like to sponsor it? :)

B and I celebrated this holiday by rocking a double-header at the movies. We started the day with some Monsters University (super cute and much better than I thought it was going to be), broke for lunch then followed it up with The Heat (pee your pants funny. seriously). We don't usually go to the movies for a myriad of reasons, but I think it was a great change of pace and an awesome way to spend the day.

And in case you missed the "official" announcement, runDisney is adding a 10k to the Tink weekend- no challenge though. My original thought was "Why would you run both if there isn't a challenge?!" Then I remembered I ran the Half and the Relay 2 years ago and that wasn't an official challenge. Just from that thought alone, I think we've been spoiled. Kudos, rD. I love that you're adding another distance, but I think without the challenge, you might get more new people to experience your magic. Now, I'm just waiting for them to announce the 10k addition to Wine and Dine- what if it was ALL on one day- the 5k, the 10k followed by the Half Marathon?! Now that would be a challenge.

How are you celebrating the 4th?

  1. I loved Monsters U!! Definitely much better than I expected. And real vacation? You are so speaking my language! Although racecations are a nice excuse to go somewhere, nothing beats a real vacation. Again, I need a money tree and unlimited vacation. Where can I sign up for that?

    1. I agree, I wish my race-cations weren't taking all my vacation money! ha.

So glad you enjoyed MU, too!

  3. You know what you call a challenge comprised of a 5K, 10K and half all on one day? 3.8 miles shy of a marathon. :-) I so want to see both of those movies. I'm hoping "The Heat" doesn't turn in to a home rental.

    1. I think it would be crazy harder, imagine it with the time in between- 30min-ish for the 5 and 10k. . . then you'd have to wait til 10pm to start the half marathon. Totally brutal.

The Heat probably would've ended up being a home rental except we thought it would be fun to make a day at the movies. . but definitely worth seeing!

  4. I actually have been thinking lately that I am going to stop running Disney races, except for Tink since I live in Ca and am legacy, so I can go on a *real* vacation.

    1. Right?! I'm having trouble narrowing it down to one, though. I want to legacy in ToT bc it's my favorite, but we also go down to FL in Feb. for family, so I can legacy in GSC. . . decisions decisions!

  5. Good point on not having a challenge. I remember how proud of myself I was when I finished the relay last year, and how I cried because I challenged myself. I didn't need a medal to tell me I was awesome, I just knew that I was because I felt it! And I got my runDisney start just by doing a 5K on Princess weekend. Not making all the half runners want to take up 10K spots could be good for newbies!

And we also saw those two movies over the weekend. We don't go to movies all that often, but it was so hot here that we used it for some entertainment, popcorn and air conditioning. Mike Wazowski in a retainer is adorable!
