Dumbo Training week 12

Monday: Rest

Tuesday: 2M

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: 5k

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 3M

Sunday: Queens 10k

Sweet almighty, was it HOT this week. A 7-day heatwave to be exact (which hasn't happened since 2002!). Friday it was so bad, the AC unit couldn't keep up. All I wanted to do was lay very very still. Yes, I know its summer. Yes, I know some places 90 degrees is NOT  a heatwave, but I will complain -again and most likely all summer- if I want to! Due to some schedule changes, I did all my runs outside and they were miserable. The only that got me through was knowing it would make me a better acclimated runner. Who knows when I'll need to run on the surface of the sun, right?

The training schedule called for back to back runs this weekend with a 3M and an 11M. I knew I had the Queens 10k, so I had to do my miles before the race- but transportation to there that early was going to be tricky. Then, I ran into friends and decided brunch was more important and fun. And now, I'm being lazy. For the record, I don't think I've ever not gotten the miles in for the week. Walked the last few miles because I had to get them in? Definitely. Broken them up? Sure. Not even bother? A couple of times, I think. But just not finish? Totally not like me.

I've decided that I'll just add the miles to next week and it'll all be ok. I'd like to get the full 11miler in for the mental goodwill. We'll see how it goes.

How do you feel about not doing all the miles on your long run?

  1. Brunch is always more important! And so much fun! You'll get them in next week and it'll be good.

  3. I totally didn't get in all of my planned miles for this week, either. The heat/humidity has really been killing me, and the last few days have been BRUTAL! I'm constantly rearranging my training plan/mileage, and I haven't had a problem yet, so I think we'll both be just fine! Best of luck on the rest of your training -- maybe I'll see you at Dumbo! Can't believe it's getting so close! :-D

  4. The eat and humidity are totally wearing me down! I'm so hoping that pushing through it will make me a better runner in the end. Can't wait until fall...

  6. It's even been really humid here in the desert and I just can not deal. We've had a pretty rainy monsoon and I don't know how people deal with this kind of humidity. I'll take 115 temps instead.
