I know it sounds weird, but it's true. I've noticed especially on the long run days when I want to get out early to beat the heat. I'll get in bed an hour+ earlier than normal and just lay there an hour+ after my regular bed time. It's usually more beneficial to me to just go to bed at the usual time and then just nap after.
Does this happen to you as well?
This totally accurate. My biggest marathon fails have come on mornings after trying to get to bed early the night before. I now try to go to bed an hour later on pre-race nights so that I sleep more soundly.
ReplyDeleteSmart plan!
DeleteInteresting fact. I notice that too. If I try to go to bed early I would end up just staying awake even more late 'cause I would just lay in there for more hours. :) Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOf course!
DeleteYes! Completely true for me as well!
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one!
DeleteI've noticed it too. Even for Disney races I will go to bed at 10-10:30 and sleep soundly until my alarm goes off around 2:30. I'd rather have a solid 4 hours of sleep then toss and turn for 6-8
ReplyDeleteThat's so true.
DeleteYes, happens to me. Unless I'm really exhausted, then I can fall asleep immediately. For Goofy, Tara and I went back to the hotel and went to bed early the 2 nights before the race just to try and adjust for the 2 race days.
ReplyDeleteThose are even harder than normal races, I think! 2am wake up calls? How do you even plan for those? haha!
DeleteUsually that is the way it is for me too unless I am already sleep deprived or worn out from a hard work out and day.
